The remote microphone only works with the SOS-12 and not the earlier SOS models. This microphone can be placed up to 300 feet from the Sensor - you will need to supply the wire. The use of the remote microphone allows the sensor to be placed inside out of the weather. It can be placed away from ambient noise at the gate. It can be placed where perpetrators can not manipulate it.
